Program Overview

The application for tenants is now closed.

The City of Texas City provided another round of federal funds totaling $435,000 for rental assistance for Texas City residents who are directly impacted by COVID-19.  The funds are being distributed by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

The Texas City Emergency Rental Assistance Program was designed for renters who live within the City of Texas City limits.  Tenants had to demonstrate that they were financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, experiencing housing instability, with a household income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income.

Both the tenant and landlord had to apply.  Eligible households could qualify for up to three months of assistance, including at least one month of past-due rent, not to exceed 120% of Fair Market Rates in Texas City/Galveston County.

What are the eligibility requirements?

  • Both tenant and landlord had to apply: Only landlords may continue to apply now.
  • For City of Texas City residents
  • Income at or below 80% of HUD Area Median Family Income
  • Must have experienced financial impact from the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Must have proven risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability
